John Entwistle, The Who, 1998

This picture of influential bass player John Entwistle was taken at his home in 1998, a few years before he died. Entwistle was the first band member to release a solo record, called 'Smash Your Head Against the Wall', in 1971. He was the first bassist to use 'Marshall stacks' with a desire for more volume, his kit ultimately drawing the nickname 'Little Manhattan' due to being almost sky-scraper-high.
